The International Centre of Excellence for OSINT held a major roundtable discussion in Zagreb on Thursday, 7 November 2024, focusing on the latest scientific trends in the application of artificial intelligence to the collection, processing, and interpretation of security-relevant information from open sources.
In addition to expert representatives from all member states of the Centre, the event brought together three distinguished European scientists specializing in the research, development, and practical application of artificial intelligence and machine learning. The success of the roundtable was greatly enhanced by the participation of Dr. Frédérique Segond, Director of the Defence and Security Mission at the French National Institute for Research in Digital Science and Technology (INRIA); Academician Sven Lončarić, Head of the Artificial Intelligence Centre at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb; and Professor Roberto Navigli, Chair of Natural Language Processing at the renowned Sapienza University of Rome.
The primary objective of the roundtable was to facilitate an active exchange of knowledge and experience between security professionals and selected representatives of the academic community. This collaboration is expected to lead, in the near future, to the launch of a series of innovative multilateral international projects under the auspices and leadership of the Centre, making a tangible contribution to strengthening security across Europe. By the conclusion of the event, participants had, through productive discussions and a focused exchange of ideas, identified several meaningful and practically feasible project concepts.
In his closing remarks, the Director of the Centre, Dr. Tomislav Dokman, expressed his great satisfaction with the outcomes of the roundtable and announced that, in parallel with the Centre's continued growth and the expansion of its activities, the event could evolve into a multi-day thematic conference as early as next year.
